Riverside Private Hospital

Riverside Hospital will provide a significant enhancement to Mackay's healthcare system as a 60-bed, 5-theatre, doctor-led short-stay private hospital specializing in surgical and cardiac services. Strategically positioned next to Mackay Base Hospital, it will feature link bridge connections over Bridge Road, establishing a direct connection to the public hospital and forming the cornerstone of the future Mackay Health Precinct. This development aims to attract top medical talent and foster greater collaboration within the region’s healthcare community.

The hospital’s design is centered on creating a calming and healing environment, with a strong emphasis on biophilic principles that enhance patient wellbeing. Drawing inspiration from the adjacent Pioneer River and surrounding mangroves, the design integrates natural light and greenery into clinical spaces through patient terraces, community gardens, and a riverfront boardwalk, creating a seamless connection to nature.

HSPC worked in close collaboration with the doctor group to develop the hospital’s design and has led the broader consultant team through the design process. With planning approval imminent, Riverside Hospital is poised to become a key healthcare facility in the region.
